El Gouna (Egypt) - % Windy days during August

Postby Desert style » Wed Apr 03, 2013 9:42 am

Hi everyone!
Can someone advice about the wind statistic for El Gouna in Egypt during late July and early August?

I have never been in Egypt, so any recommendation about hotels and resorts in El Gouna or near would be appreciated.

I want the all included hotel in front of a super flat water spot. Is it El gouna the right place.

Is the Cable park already opened?

Thanks.

Soma Bay has a very good kitespot at the 7Bft Kitehouse (which is the best i've ever seen) and is not very far away from El Gouna.

I've been there 2 years ago in August and had a lot of fun and a lot of wind 8)
Think that the Kiteschool has an own hotel with a shuttle service.

Been to El Gouna 3 times- Stayed at Sheraton, Mövenpick and Rihana inn.

Sheraton is best of those 3- they have a small kitecenter on a small island a short walk over a bridge- The launch is small but there was not many kiters there, only 3 at a time ( at new year). You can be close to family at hotel that has shelter from wind. Hotel is one of best there.

Mövenpick is reallyn nice but a bit further south and the kitecenter beach they have is placed in a slightly leeshore due to small island- there is a lagoon close in but if you can get further out the windshadow from a small island is not a problem. Tide can make lagoon too shallow to kite in.

if you want to hang with the kiters just go to hotel reception driveway and hop on a tuk-tuk and they will take you on 5-10 min ride to kite centers further up the beach- there were 40 or so kites out at time up there at Mangroovy beach when i had 3 guys at Sheraton. I did this when staying at Rihana and Mövenpick.

You can rent storage for your kite and board and that then includes launch and landing help. People working there have always been on the ball and happy to help. Its worth the money to pay for the storage.

Other option is to find hotel like Captains Inn at the Abu Tig marina and you can walk 10-15 min along beach path to first kite center. Abu Tig is nice place to eat and hang out at night- it was family friendly over new year.

There may be hotels further north of Abu Tig- they have built new marina just north of Abu Tig and there are 1-2 more kite centers even further north than Mangroovy

I have always gone over christmas/ newyears- and that is marginal wind season- summer is supposed to have better wind- but must be brutal hot in summer.

also- lots of things to do like snorkeling, diving, paddle SUP, ride camel, quad safari in sunset ( recommended!) and go-carts. My 7 year old boy had a great time snorkling and doing quad safari.

El Gouna is a resort- fake and manmade. But its safe, clean and at least its the locals working there, not imported workforce.

Hi! :thumb:

Looks good, I have been checking and I suppose that in El Gouna is also difficult to have the hotel in front of the spot. So, it's similar to Soma Bay and the 7Bft spot, taking some transportation every day and storing the gear at the beach.

About the wind, is there any difference between El Gouna and Soma Bay?
And about hotels, facilities, safety... is more a less the same in booth places?

I was afraid that there's low wind some days (or during a week) and the idea of having a cable park (El Gouna) is attractive for us.

Can anyone confirm that August is windy there?
I want to read that there are 14/15 knots everyday.... :naughty:
But... Is it usually blowing all day long or only in the afternoon?

Thanks.

Egypt is full of good spots such as :
Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab, Ras Sedr (All in Sinai).

Here are some links for Kite Surfing centers in these places:

- http://www.facebook.com/pages/Happy-Kit ... 4828943071
- http://www.facebook.com/pages/SOUL-KITE ... 2484154741

Here are some links for Kite Surfing centers in El-Gouna and Soma Bay:

- http://www.facebook.com/pages/Kiteboard ... 2790872594
- http://www.facebook.com/RedSeaZone

Most of them are good kiting spots I Prefer El Gouna and Sharm el Sheikh.

El-Gouna is more elite and classy place, Sharm el Sheikh is more crowded and commercial old city.

Hint: from El-Gouna to Soma Bay around 80 Km (1 hour by car).

I'm Egyptian so Feel free to ask me about any info you need.
