Interesting thread! I've been looking forward to checking out the Slingshot version of the Vanguard - the T-Rex.

Here's my review after testing it out in Cape Hatteras...

Interesting how you think that it's good points are those not to do with surf.

Would you say that the message is that this isn't a "version of the Vanguard", it's a big ol' twintip or a modern mutant... I guess that without the MPH shaping on the bottom of the hull it just doesn't do the business.

What's attracting me to the Vanguard is the shortness, lightness and speed in the waves.

I'd say you are spot on Joe. :)

That guy basically said it sucks for everything but upwind charging, cruising and learning. Sounded like he was honestly dissatisfied.

I've been riding a 5'0" Vanguard and been loving it. (Mind you, I'm only 150lbs/65kg - but my 200lbs+ friend took it for a spin and it still worked for him). Super fast board that can pivot on a dime or carve long drawn out turns. Since it's only surf construction, I've already managed to buckle the board and had to have it repaired. Hoping that their kite version comes out soon.

Was down in Hood River a few weeks ago and saw both the Slingshot T-Rex and the new Liquid Force (don't know the name) knock-off boards. Didn't get to ride them, but they're both wider, thicker, and way heavier than the Vanguard. SS board had no bottom shaping while the LF one had some channels near the tail and tip of the board. We'll see what's in the LF 2014 product line, but the board looked something like this except that it was orange:

Not sure, but the one I saw looked like a 5'4" board. Quite a bit wider and thicker than my 5'0" x 17" x 2" Vanguard (obviously). I'd estimate that the volume is somewhere in the 26-29 L range. But, the LF Messenger seemed to be slightly smaller (in all dimensions/volume) than the SS T-Rex.

Hope that this helps.

That is about the size that the Vanguard kite-version is going to be.

(if my Hellfire never shows up again, might have to go with a "woody" Vanguard eventually.)

REWARD, Recompensa

Board stolen in Santa Rosalia Baja California Sur (port town on the Sea of Cortez side where the ferry leaves for the mainland town of Guaymas)

The rat bastards will probably try to sell it to surfers...but any decent surfer will see the pads with SCREW holes in them (NSI pads) and realize that the board is really for KITING and truthfully its difficult to paddle it into waves, although of course it can be done by a strong surfer in good swell.

The board has Black and white camo NSI pads, is in a standard surfboard bag with one reflective surface, and inside was also a full wetsuit for 6ft man, a Neil Pride Life jacket, and some lycra bike shorts and pair of brown Mystic board shorts.

Im offering reward, i LOVED that board and had JUST finished a sick 8 day trip in nice Pacific swell with side-off winds.
