I could use some of those Surf kites as well as it is just amazing watching the size of the surf that the great lakes generate at this time of the year! For fresh water they are truly a sight to see and would make any surfer eager to get out!

Anybody else wonder if these kites are too broadly spaced?
I have the Surf 12m and 8m (and will get a 5m for the winter) and have 2 bars set up with 18m and 22m lines. Even being able to "add a size" by going to 22m lines, I still find the size hard to dial in and wonder if 12/9/6m would have been a better call- or 12/10/8/6.
Love the kites- love the 18m lines, so would rather not use the 8m (and presumably the 5m) on longer lines to bridge the gap to the next size up. Or is it just me?
Btw I used to have Ren 11m/9m/7m which seemed to be nicely spaced as is or was (and even more adjustable with both 22m and 15m lines).

I think you will be happy with the 8 & 12 if you want my opinion. The spacing seems to work perfect. I can use the 8 in almost any condition I would like to go in, have used it in anywhere from 15 to 35 range, I am 180 lbs. On the lighter wind end I am doing a down winder not staying upwind but am really happy with the range, very broad. I just got the 12 (today) which I am very happy about. I already know how well it works though because I have borrowed a friends plenty of times. The 12 works great for me when it is very light and when I would like to make sure I am staying upwind. Personally, I cant find a need for any other sizes.
To have the 5 would be nice but I usually am not going if its blowing 40, but that is just me, I know a lot of people like to go in those conditions.
I use the same size lines every time.
I'm really having a great time with these kites. Have caught so many waves with that 8.

I love the 5m (even the final prototype)
The low end is so so low that from 22 knots and the 5'7" ATV at 81 kilos works really great. And when the gusts are close to 35kn then no problem !!!

Nikalaitzan, seems like a really wide range on the 5 also. Now, you're making me want to get the 5 too. I love the 8 so much that I have not taken time to try the 5, I will need to try it soon.

SURF 8 & 12 for the waves. RENEGADE 6.5 and 9 for all around kiting. And some times I use my son's JUNIOR PRO 4 when it blows 45+ for the waves.
Just try the EPICKITES and you will see for yourself.

Hello Balloonboy,
Since I have the the SURF kite in these SURF 5/8/12m, its easy for me to take what kite I want that day. But I will say that I use the SURF 8 most of the time on my surf board from (15 to 23 knots). But if its blowing (20 to 35+++ knots), then definitely I go with the SURF 5m.
Now if its blowing (16 to 20 knots) and I am doing a down wider, I can still use the SURF 5m. But again if some one took my SURF 5m and I have only my SURF 8m &12m with me and its blowing 20 to 30 knots then using the SURF 8m will be ok.
I use the SURF 12m only in (10 to 16 knots) on my surf board.
So in few words if you leave in a place were it blows most of the time (15 to 22 - 25 knots) just get the SURF 8m. No need for the SURF 12m or 5m. But it will be great to have the SURF 5m in (20 to 27-35 knots). It will make your wave riding much easier on the waves.
The SURF 5 / 8 / 12m have a big range from each other. Some times when I am on the SURF 5m other people are on the SURF 8m and RENEGADE 9m.

Dimitri what line lengths do you use with your Wave kites?
Hello
irwe,
Personally I use
15m lines with the
SURF 5/8/12. But if its blowing (10 to 14 knots) I will use 18m lines on the SURF 12 in order to get more power.
But again 15m is very short and you need to get use to it, but once you get use to it you are not going to want to use longer lines in the surf any more.
The only reason I have an extra set of 18m lines and not 15m lines that comes in the bag with the SURF kite is because I did not want to scare kiters away. So 18 meter lines is perfect to start with. Then you can go to 15 meter lines.
So when you buy the SURF kite, in the bag you will see an extra set of 18 meter lines that you can replace with the 22m lines that comes with the 4G EPIC bar.
