One year follow up............

I'm not observing any wear on the waxed lines.
Without the wax I would have seen frayed spots by now.

I am now dipping the lines directly into the can of melted wax.
They wick up the wax quickly, and it is a lot easier than the paint brush method.

I almost exactly the same as the OP
But I do not brush the melted candle wax in. Bllx to that. I just drop the line into the melted wax and pull the line out between tight finger and thumb wearing my motorcycle gloves.
I then let it cool, and run the line back through my finger & thumb getting rid of the excess.
The line will be more flat than round, do not worry about this, it will sort itself out over a short time

the line is stiffer, so I normally leave the ends wax less to make the process of attaching back to the bar and associated hardware easier. I never get the wax in the part of the line where it goes through a cleat. You do not want it smooth in that area, you need to to rough up enabling the cleat to bite into the rope
After a couple of sessions the line will become a little more flexible

The line will last a damn sight longer than unwaxed :thumb:

I use tea light candles as they are silly cheap and I had loads sitting around

Warming solid wax and then getting the line to be soaked by it (applicaton methods may vary)
REALLY REALLY works.

I was replacing CL lines on my north bar every 6 months.

I'm now on my 3rd YEAR with the same waxed CL line with no reapplication and am just STARTING to see minor signs of wear.

This bar has seen heavy use and for 2 years as this was my only lineset. I had to replace the flying lines at the 2 year mark. but CL appears ok.

I used snowboard wax dripped on from an iron until the line was saturated. (no need to disassemble.

Where I live I get both temperature extremes. This winter I rode when it was -15 F, and last summer it was close to 100 F. Is there just one wax that works well in all temps?

While I'm sure windyway's method worked for him, I think it's too much messy work compared to using bowstring wax as I mention in my replies to this other thread about waxing depower line.

I have no idea how candle wax would perform in cold weather, but the bowstring wax has been great.

Waxing the chicken loop line definitely works! I just use cool water surf wax and rub it all over the line until it looks covered enough. Also did it to my Dynabar Line. After over a year, barely any wear noticeable.

Prior to that, the chicken loop line and Dynabar Line were wearing out quickly with the type of beach sand we have here...and eventually, both snapped due to wear.
