what kite has low bar pressure with power?

Postby bpchilds » Tue Apr 30, 2013 9:17 pm

Hello,

I have recently developed some elbow problems and it might be from my older kites that have heavy bar pressure and it is straining my tendons/ligaments when steering the kite. The is not enough power, so i feel I am overexerting my energy to turn the kite.

Can people please make kite suggestions that will steer easier and have low bar pressure + POWER?

I currently use a 2008 Cabrinha 12M SBIII that has given me elbow trouble. I have a 2011 Cabrinha 10M SB, which is fine but the 12M in lighter winds makes it difficult to ride smoothly.

I am looking for a 14M (6'0", 225lbs) to replace the 12M. I am an advanced rider and will use the kite mainly for freeriding.

Thank you all for your help,
B

I have found amazing power and a super smooth power delivery in the 2013 Blade Triggers and the bar pressure is very light and yet the kite is delightfully responsive. Super fun kite to ride.

there's a reason slingshot, cabrinha, naish liquid force all quit making them 2:1 pulley bar kites people were having to quit kiteboarding from elbow injuries any bow kite made after 2009 should be fine. if you like cab's just get a new cab 14m kite you will be surprised how much progress has been made in just a few years.

Try a Mutiny P-Series in the Freeride-Setup if you like modern power C-Kites. It is another world even compared with the 2013 Cabrinhas. You will feel really connected to the kite with an surprisingly low bar pressure. Normally this doesn't work together but the former Hadlow Kite designer has solved this problem.

The Blade Trigger is a fine kite. I sold my Wainman Boss because of bar pressure and have been looking at replacements too. The bar pressure is a delight and it turns very fast without being overly tweaky. Stability has been considerably improved over the earlier Triggers. It doesn't have the low-end of the Boss (I'm 185lbs), but it's way better than the Park. It drifts well too. I'll probably end up buying one. The Triggers go from 12m to 14m.

I think the new Cabrinhas still have plenty of bar pressure. I borrowed a 2013 S/B for a downwinder and couldn't wait to get off that kite. They may have reduced the power a bit and added speed to the turning characteristics but the bar pressure feels relatively the same provided you are using the factory setting for the pigtails.

I fly RRD Obsessions 2012 and find they have light to medium bar pressure. My go to kite is my 13.5 meter which I can kite on all day long compared to Cabrinhas. The obsession flys off the front lines a bunch.

As far as blade triggers go, if the 2013s are anything like the 2012s, I would say they have a bar pressure that is medium to heavy. The 2012 trigger feels similar to my 2010 renegade and the kites look almost identical. If they don't give you tennis elbow, they are bound to give you intersection syndrome.

I had the same problem as you with the high bar pressure,
you're describing.
So that's the reason I'm now only flying Flysurfer Speed3 kites.
It has the pros and cons and you might not like the slower turning speed if you got used to L.E.I.,
but everything else is great. :claps:

The 2013 ozone edges have low pressure but still just enough to feel connected to the kite. Its adjustable as well.

Completely disagree.
2010, 2011, 2012 Triggers all have light to light medium bar pressure at most.
I've been kiting for 8 years and have flown lots of kites.
In comparison to twenty other kites, Triggers fit right in with the lighter group.
The Epic Renegades are also light to light medium.
The Renegades are similar to the Triggers, same designer but there are definitely differences in several areas.
Triggers jump a little better and Renegades are a little better for surf.
Renegades have a little more bottom end and Triggers have a little more top end.
Triggers are set up and marketed to be a do it all kite.
Renegade was tweaked to be a surf kite first, and an all around kite second.
The Obsessions pressure must be super, duper light to give the impression that some of these others are heavy.
