Training/exercises to complement kiting?

Postby alohasurfer73 » Sun May 05, 2013 8:12 am

Hey guys?
What kind of training/exercises do you do between kite sessions to complement your kiting, to get stronger/better?

As I am only riding surfboards nowadays I use Carver Skateboards to train my carving/turns, balance, stance, shoulder rotation. It is also a good workout for the legs.

Add in a few 'realistic' flexibility exercises.. (not the airy fairy bullshit ones) it helps when you come unstuck and less chance of joint injury. Basic weight training can help to strengthen the body for endurance and take bigger hits from high jumps - bit like training up a 'glass' jaw... And dont forget to add 1cup cement powder over you cereal ;)

I don't have seasons. its all year kiting for me!...

but I do mountain bike and longboard skate. both activities and fitness, strength, endurance and agility as to kitesurfing. kiting adds core strength and the thrill factor that the others don't give as much of/

Check out Redcord slingtraining. I came across it a while ago, love it.

One of the members here, Larse, runs a great fitness website dedicated to strength training, injury prevention, etc specifically for kiting:

Plummet, you lucky bastard :)
1968, I checked it out and it turns out our Swedish ski team uses redcord, so I guess it works!
Dyyylan, very good site, big thanks to Larse!
I've done some kettlebell training lately, especially the balistic exercises like different kinds of swings, and I feel it's a good complement for balance and core muscles!

I hit the cable and wake board. Whats nice is it forces me to work on my switch side as the cable pulls for a regular and I'm a goofy. Other than that I do cardio, stretching with a cable at the gym, a lot of lat pulls to my waist from various angles, and some basic lifting to maintain my strength and muscle.
