Where can I buy the shaft O-Ring for a Kite pump???

I have 4 typical aluminum shaft kite pumps. I have searched the internet but cant find any source for replacement O-rings that seal the shaft in the cap of the pump. Replacing the O-ring should make the upstroke more effective.

I am really surprised I could not find them. I tried different search parameters but no luck.

can you take the ring out? did not know that you can. If so, try your local hardware store.

Yes how did you get your shaft out of the ring, did you find a way of removing the handle?

The handle can be removed using a plumbers pipe wrench, same for the ram on the bottom. I took the ring out and took it to the local NAPA auto parts store, they have a big box of various size rings. Found one that works for $1.25 Canadian.

The handle is screwed AND GLUED on. After you break the grip from the glue it comes right off

Make sure you clean off any grease and protect the shaft from wrench teeth marks which will wreak havoc on the new O-ring.

Saildawg,

Thx for the tip on Napa.

go to a gasket/o-ring shop and buy them ... i replaced all of them and my pumps work fine...catch the shaft with a wrench to unscrew it but use a thick fabrick like leather not to scratch the shaft

Feeling kind of stupid forcing the glued handle off, when the base piece with the valves easily screws off by hand so you can remove the shaft from the pump cap to replace the O-ring.

in sandy beaches this is the weakest part

I would likely convert the pump in a push-only action (like bicycle pump), in order not to fatigue my weak back, but if I take out this o-ring it looses air when pulling... :?:
