Seat -> Waist Harness Sore Stomach Muscles?

Postby Slappysan » Tue May 07, 2013 12:43 am

Having learned on a Dakine Fusion seat harness and recently switched to a new mystic waist harness I'm having a very sore set of core muscles a day or two after kiting with the new harness.

I'm sure the more I use it the better in shape my core will get but I'm wondering if I was doing anything wrong technique wise.

I keep my back arched a bit and lean way back while edging and there is no discomfort while riding, only the next day.

It probably just hurts because you are not used to riding with that harness, meaning the torso gets a better workout when using a waist harness since the center of gravity is your torso, not your hips. I might get it wrong, but it seems normal.

that means you are working out your muscles, mostly your abs.

I have both. I use the waist when in the surf, if on flat water doing this and that...but when I'm doing an all out boost session on the edge, the seat harness comes out. Spreads the load across your hips and torso. When I do this session on the waist I can actually tear stomach muscles, no probs on the seat.

So yes, hence why you may be having the sore stomach muscles.

Better switch back directly to your old harness before you develop an anomaly commonly referred to as six pack... Be on the safe side.

i'm also doing exactly like you and it works perfect for me too. I can't hold as much power when riding with my waist so for big jump I still prefer my Mystic Force Shield harness but for free riding and with the surf board I prefer the feeling of the waist.

But the pain will fade out slightly every session, new muscles are working :thumb:

I went from a Fusion to a Renegade... and back to the Fusion :( Actually found I was in less discomfort after riding the Renegade for a session - back and abs were all fine

BUT

the spreader bar pad was twisting up and digging into the bottom of my rib cage. Ouch... sore whatever it was for days.

Yeh a freeride boost session off ocean ramps on a 10m edge in 20 knots plus jumping twice on the way out and twice on the way in over a couple of hours would tear my abs to shreds on a waist. Reckon I got close to a hernia a few times!

yep you have just found some extra muscles to build up. boosting is the hardest on the abs with a waist harness. its certainly a ton easier on a seat when your mega powered.

Just keep riding and yourl grow rock hard abs.

these days my abs don't hurt at all..... but If I have a lay off for a month or so...(I have to break something to do this) when i'm back into it hurts like hell for a few weeks.
