One of my goals this season is to learn/improve my high wind jumps and soaring like you can see in some fantastic videos where kiters cover crazy distances in the air. I tried this last weekend moderately powered in 20knots on the 12m. Couple issues I had are as follows....I typically boost with the kite just behind me so I quickly re-directed as I neared the apex and of coarse I soared nicely. But I did not have time to throw the kiteloop for a smooth landing like I could if I just jumped and went for a typical downloop transition. Is this b/c I should only be doing this on a 9m where I have time for these kite movements in the air? Also, I use a rope slider and while I am experienced in some unintended rotations I felt the hard re-direct after the apex of the boost was really unstablizing and I can't quite remember why, but I think it was trying to front roll me so the kiteloop landing just eliminated that and I just had a hard landing. My intuition is telling me this soaring move for big jumps is more for a 9m vs a 12m due to the time available for kite movement. Perhaps maybe don't send the kite as far behind on the 12m vs the 9m, etc?

I'm barely an intermediate kiter but I can tell you that the key is to keep the kite moving fast in the air.
As a swoop through the power zone with bar mostly out will show you, cutting into fresh air that's had no time to slow for the kite will yield the massive amount of raw power you need to keep you in the air longer.
Pulling the bar all the way in slows the kite and the air mass under the kite will begin to plummet downwards with you, especially as you loose the apparent wind you created in your lead up to the jump. So I'd say biggish fast loops have to be the solution for big air time. Easy enough to check if you watch video of those kind of jumps. And the smaller the kite, the faster you need to keep it moving to increase the mass of air supporting you.

the tutorials from this guy might help:

In part two he also explains the best moment for take off, kite position, steering, landing loop, body position and posture to fly in a controlled way.

I reckon lots of wind is the answer. Go out powered to all hell. Then yourl be floating around for ages.
Also the kite makes a huge difference to float. Go for a high aspect kite like an ozone edge. Then you will be up there for a looooong time.

If you have a decent enough jump technique then it’s mostly about going out overpowered and having the balls to still send it hard, and of course a good wave ramp also helps. KOTA riders are going out on 9s in 30 knots +.

Yeah Nah!.... you just need to get used to it then its no different.
It feels weird for a while. But once accustomed to the slider jumping is the same as before.

Isn't gusts the most important part on this? Gusts are what keeps me floating in the air, always awesome to have that new boost that keeps you in the air longer. But sometimes it's also scary
