Lots of good advice offered here imo.
When I started I think I was "hanging on for dear life" and that caused me to blister, it wasn't so bad when it was a day or two on a weekend but a kiting week became painful by the end. I brought Dakine fingered gloves, and then also made sure I worked on grip strength (google kiteboarding exercises). I think also that as I improved my hold on the bar kite has moderated from "desperation" to merely "mildly authorative" ;) Have fun.

Yeah, I am actually a powerlifter, but have been out of the gym with injuries for the past 6 months. I'll get back to deadlifting heavy soon. That should toughen my hands up.

Lot of "tough" guys on this forum... I suppose those of you who say HTFU etc, don't wear sunscreen or use a wetsuit for cold water either. I happen to have nice callouses from weight lifting but I still wear gloves when kiteboarding. If that hurts the delicate fashion sensibilities of some of you guys, then you can kiss my Go Joe. Do what works for you and quit worrying about what other people do.

Nah, not tough, just think that gloves are for hockey and snowboarding. Wetsuits are fine. :D

I got a new 2013 Blade Unibar and I find it much harsher on my hands than my old Naish bar. I like to ride with my thumbs on the same side as my fingers but with this bar it's causing trouble.

I have been windsurfing during 15 years and kite surfing during 1 year. I had that problem and I used super glue to treat and to prevent blisters. In my opinion using gloves you will lose "bar feeling"

Yes I hear you, do you also get upset like me when you break your finger nails kiting. Oh well back to the saloon for some more pampering. :D
