What can you do to prevent palm blisters?

Postby mdksniper » Sun Jun 02, 2013 3:45 pm

I bought a new set of Naish Rides recently and that Naish Universal bar is tough on the hands. After every 3 hour session the skin on my palms where I grip the bar is pretty much rubbed off. Is it due partially to bar pressure? Anyone have any suggestions to prevent these hand problems?

I had a lot of hand blisters and for me it was directly related to the bar pressure of my kites. I like to do long rides and with heavy bar pressure I always get blisters. On very light pressure bar I never get some for the same time on the water. I have two very light bar pressure kite and one bar is foam, the other is rubber. Same thing for heavier bar pressure, I had one with soft foam and an other with rubber. The material did no difference, but the bar pressure did.

I have no idea how is your bar pressure on your Naish kite. If you can, try a kite with very low bar pressure for a session. It is certainly not a problem that affect a lot of peoples but it is frustrating when you have blisters and the wind is good for many days in a row!

kite more ur hands will get strong like leather, either that or some thin exercise gloves. Also snow kite all winter so your hands don't go soft in the off season.

get a pair of the "fingerless" gloves they used for cycling and BMX riding, they work well.

I wear fingerless paddling gloves that are made for kayaking or canoeing. Works great.

Wear gloves if you can stand it or limit your time on the water. I would love to have the Naish bar at the cable park compared to our broom sticks. Literally the handles are 3/4" wood dowels so compared to that your bar is not that rough.

Thanks guys.. Missing out on a great day of wind today because of this :angryfire:

Hard to see, but the sides of my hand and where you grip the bar are super red and raw. Can't grip anything :(

I've had the same problem this weekend, after a 6hour ride on the water had a break once but that's not enough haha.
Next day good wind also but the skin on my hands were raw too and the muscles and tendon's (is that the good word?) in my arm still hurts, thinking about more breaks and maybe some gloves indeed.

Just so frustrating if you want to rip it but your hands say no ! :D

Hmm, I've never had this happen even when riding 3-4 days per week for hours and hours. It might be because I grip the bar with my fingers rather than my hand, so I don't have any pressure at all really on my hands, except when unhooking.

I think the grip DOES make a difference too though... I could ride for hours and hours with no problem with the spongy Mutiny bar (same with the LF bar), but after riding a Best kite for about a half hour my hands were pretty sore. Same with the Switch bar, which they seem to wrap with sandpaper for some reason.
