I'm going to be in Isle of Palms in a week. Not sure whether I should bring my gear. What kind of wind does one expect in that area? Is it possible to rent a board?

Thanks.

IOP and Sullivans island is our local launches here. Pretty big and cool Kite scene here. On IOP we are only allowed to launch south of 3rd and North of 51st. The beach patrol is very focused about this. Stay 200ft from swimmers and offshore. Sullivans island at 28.5st is probably the best for kiting two sandbars with waist deep water for about 200 yards. SI is 10 minute drive from IOP. We can launch from 28.5 st north. this week looks to be good for wind. Not sure about next week. Hope this helps, see you on the water.

Thanks very much Doc. I'll make a note of all this. If you don't mind, I'll contact you before going out. I don't want to put anyone's site at risk.

What's the wind like there on a typical good day?

All depends, typical day with the seabreeze kicking in 15-20mph. frontal activity or something offshore could bump up to the mid 20's. If you have wind alert, they have a station on the IOP pier and at 28.5. It will give you real time wind and direction. Also the forecast/ briefing on windalert for SC coast.. is done by a local kiter here in chas.

Thanks. I'm about 195 lbs and spend 99% of my time on a 13 meter Waroo in 18-22 mph winds. Below 18 gets to be not much fun. I'm thinking of bringing just that one kite (my other kite is a 9M). Does that seem reasonable?

One last question... should I bring my 3mm wetsuit or would I be the only fool out there wearing a wetsuit?

Thanks.

Hey Spork,

Water temperature is showing 71 degrees at 7 this morning.

Tuesday June 18 looks like the best day. However; the sea breeze will hopefully build up for you and give you some wind in the afternoon. That is if you are going next week.
