Ozone Edge 13m 2013 relaunch

Postby badgb21 » Sun Sep 08, 2013 2:44 am

Hi
I have a 10m edge and use it in plenty of wind and it relaunches okay.
I'm considering a 13m and was wondering how it launches in lighter airs?

Thanks
Kev

I like my 13 edge. its is the older 2010 7 strut edge. get difficult to relaunch around 10 knots. I have held it to 30 knots but that was silly. I usually use it 13-23. Typically its my 15-20 knot charger.

Relaunch is fairly easy even on the 13m. I am 64 kilos on a twintip and I get out at 10 knots but not less. No problem relaunching in that wind as long as you don't have waves smashing the kite.

I have that exact same kite for Mohave, & i weigh 92 kg .
Typically it's my 14 - 25kt kite, (14 on a surfboard & 25 on a TT) and that is
what it usually blows here.
My older 2008 - 13M Edge was good for nearly 30Kt with my weight, but it
didn't have the same bottom end because the LE was a smaller diameter.

On re-launch :
i find it really easy to relaunch if Ya Don't drop it ; just send it to zenith, just
before Ya eat Sh*t ; that's your Last dieing gasp of air, before Ya turn into a
submarine !!
I'm GOOD at the "Eating of Sh*t" !! :(

It will be still flying ------ Long after everyone else has there kite sitting in the
water during a down-cycle ; just keep it moving in figure-8's , and up real high.

This part Sucks, we usually get around 5 down-cycles a day with our unstable
desert winds ; then it turns-on again so everyone is usually rigged for the top end.

The Ozone Edge 13m (and other large sizes) is not easy to relaunch in light winds. It is optimized for performance not relaunching.

A lot of us use them around here for racing and we have found a helpful tip. As you are pulling on a back line, pull on the opposite front line. This twists the kite and lets it catch the wind better so it will drift to the side and relaunch.

Thanks for the tips.
Have pushed the button on the order, so we'll see shortly.

I still have in mind a vision from a few years back of a friend swallowing a lot of sea water trying to re-launch his high aspect EH kite. He was ok, but soon sold his kite afterwards!

Thanks
Kev

Im new to kite racing and find it easy to restart after som practice. If you pull front line oposit to side line you want to lift, the kite will easily roll on side and restart. If its wery light wind you will nead litle more practice an pull strongly both frontlines when thing start lifting from edge of window.
Not posible to restart it in light wind without using one front line to help roll the kite to one side.
Search in you tube for -relaunch your kite in light wind-it helped me a lot.
