I'm 40 and have been surfing my whole life, beach guarded for 17 years and been a runner almost my whole life. Started kiting 3 years ago and like when i run ans sail i wear sunglasses. I have Pterygium in both eyes. Each year i talk to my Dr about it and he just monitors it. He says they are removeable via surgery but probably not worth it unless they grow over cornea which is unusual. Mine get agravated from too much computer and/or tv time and lack of sleep / fatigue seem to exacerbate the problem. Wind definitely causes them to swell and get irritated. I manage them to good effect using eye drops (Opticon A) - over the counter allergy eye drops.
