470. 460. Maybe the line is really 469.67896543 cm long. The real number is 6.1.3. That is the section of the manual that tells you how long that line should be. And it is not a number such as 460 or 470. It tells you how long that line should be relative to other components of the bar. It's not a fixed number.

Anyway, maybe I'm being to simple. Call the factory to make sure they didn't round 469.67896543 to 470 because it could throw the bar completely out of wack. That's sarcasm by the way.

Call North and see what they say.

... dude, you clearly don't know North kites, or understand what a nose line is,,, or what I'm asking,,,, but then again,,, I probably don't get the sarcasim via text on forums trying to be funny,,, my bad!

Can I ask you why do they print a number on a little tag then sew it on the nose line,,, if it didn't matter? Oh,,,, there I go again, taking you serious again, I didn't get the joke, did I ,,, yoooooou were being funny,, I get it now!.

Anyway, thanks for your help and looking into it.

Toby, do you know any other 18m owners who could have a look?

Cheers for now,

Robbie,,, out! :D

My kite lines say 22 meters on the tag. That exact measurement walked out the door after 2 sessions of kiting. Same as my 3 meter extensions. I tune my kites now to measurements relative to each other. Such as length of front lines relative to steering lines. My only little tidbit of info was that sometimes those numbers become irrelevant and to maybe consider that into the equation. More so after 2 years. I doubt anything on your kite or bar that is not rigid is the same length as 2 years ago.

Is Pi 3.14 or 3.14159265359..........sarcasm.

In case you haven't noticed, each of my post did try to assist you. Regardless if you appreciated the dry humor or not. Reading the manual, it talks about how the section of the 5th element line shoud be equal length to the flying lines. That was your original question. 5th line length. Unless I'm looking at the wrong 5th line? Is there more than one 5th line? So with that bit from the manual, the tag could say 460 or 470 but would that number matter if they are telling you that the 5th line should be equal to length of an ever changing component such as flying lines that stretch.

Am I looking at the wrong line you are talking about in section 6.1.3 of the 2012 trust bar manual? Anyway, if I'm just annoying you then I will move on and put a shrimp on the Barbie.

... nah cool as dude, I know you were helping :thumb: .

I did say 5th line in my post, you're right there, but, what I really wanted to know is the nose line measurements, as written in the subject line, which is different to the '5th line attached to the bar'. I just re-read what I wrote and yeah,,, I didn't specify too well, so your are correct. Toby has one so he understood what I was after. :)

cheers,

Robbie :D

What happend?
... I added another 10cm to the nose line and had 2 sessions since and what I found is the kite feels slightly softer with a little more power in the turns and not sure if upwind suffered at all

I haven't really done a good experiment yet as I added the line and went kiting so results may be due to wind conditons and nothing to do with the nose line. What I will do next session is remove the extra 10cm then put it back, see if it makes any difference..

There is another reason why I ask and its the fact that I've had 3 18m split in the same place in the LE right near the 5th line attachment poinbt and it may have been because the nose line has been short all along.

Anyway, I'll do some experimenting and let you know!

cheers,

Robbie :D

You killed 3 Dyno 18?
Stop it!

Where did they rip...at the zipper? There is a week point, the lower zipper seam (the lower one when opening the zipper).

Measured the new one: 4,60 !!!

... yeah, I killed 2  and on my 3rd now but its a repaired one. The 3rd has been extentively repaired too and it too failed in the same spot, exactly the spot you mentioned, the lower zipper.

After all this time, I never thought to check the nose line and now I think I found the culprit, maybe a short nose line??? I think that being under tension all the time, the LE has a point load and has overloaded the LE material (around the zipper). What do you think?

First one blew after 2 months while pumping it up, only up to 4psi when boooom, my baby split. Second kite was just released by friend on launching and while kite rising up, boooom, down it fell in a heap. Lucky for me I wasn't out on water when it happens.

Oh, by the way, my mates 16m did the same, and he's on his 3rd also (was on his 3rd). He lost faith with it so while the last one was still new, he kept it in its bag and put it up for sale. He went to Ozone Edges and hasn't been happier.

I noticed one day while he was kiting on his 16m, during a big jump the top of the kite looked flat, especially the LE so I mentioned it to him and he checked his bar and lines, all good. He too didn't think of checking the nose line length and I bet its short too. I'll get him to check, see if the nose line is short compared to whats written on the tag. His blew same spot by the way.

Hey Toby, how about you put 10cm extension and see if you like it, let us know what you reckon on performance.

cheers for now,

Robbie :D

Yes, I will try next time!

I had several Dynos now and ony one blew and I had it repaired.

Maybe the extra load caused it.
