Even though the sailrocket has the record most people think it's cheating because it can only sail in one direction and is more or less useless in a practical sense.

I love how it's so freakishly engineered just to gain a few knots over a kite's top speed. I mean, great engineering feat, but it also cost $300,000 to build.

I'm excited about this struggle of pilot skill (kiteboarding) against the forward march of pure technology (Sailrocket). Pretty impressive that guys are able to approach the world record and potentially reclaim it with only a board under them and a kite in the sky.

Kitesurfing is so useful, in the practical sense!

As a matter of fact, kitesurfing, like music and art, is such a beautiful activity precisely because it doesn't serve any practical purpose, provided being able to tack both ways isn't one.

Only leg pulling. ;-)
