Supposedly a guy actually tried pumping helium into his kite years ago at Sherman Island. He claims that the kite stayed in the air better during lulls and was easier to relaunch but the difference was fairly small. At the time, it cost about $15 to fill his kite with helium and it leaked out so quickly that it was only good for about 1/2 hour before the kite started getting too soft.

Imagine the "bad press" kiteboarding would get if it turns out that filling kites with helium make them work a lot better than using actual air.
