Hey everyone,
I've been trolling this forums for a while now without posting. Good info everywhere!
I'm researching where to go for my winter months and it would be GREAT to hear anyones travel experience who went after a trip that I'm after and found it! Pretty much I want to Backpack with my kiting gear someplace warm and sunny and find some amazing kiting.
Basically what I'd like is: Anywhere in the world ( someplace warm and sunny, ocean) traveling from Toronto, Canada. My budget is around 30 bucks a day (all in food, room) but I would consider spots higher (not much) or lower then this (South America, Asia??)
A shack close to the beach for super cheap is good, someplace that is windy, with a decent social crowd and culture (i'm 26). :jump: I'm thinking of staying in one location for at least two weeks at a time depending on how much I like it (but more if the place fits my criteria). Maybe a one month rental?
For kiting conditions, Ideally I'd like it all - flatwater and surf (small waves to try out some kickers on my twintip) But would love to get into surf, even without the kite (but I'm a nube to surfing). So it would be sweet if any locations had these options for conditions (and rentals??). Oh wind- lots of it :). ( Which kites should I bring, (I'm 83kg, about 165 lbs), I have a 7,9,12 quiver, 142 twin tip and will probably get some boots for it)

Anyone else planning something like this?

So please post your travel experiences!!

ps. Paragliding at the location would be a plus (my friend might join me).

Cheers! :thumb:

well, in case you change your mind or give up on the tropical nomad paradise backpack idea, (which i do hope you figure out) and instead just want a place to live cheap and kite like crazy, then South Padre Island is the place. its hot until mid november, then alternating warm and cool with some "cold" days (50's f) december jan feb, getting hot again by early / mid march usually.

massive flats, wicked surf downwinders, super cheap, lots of wind.

I'm thinking Asia is your destination to get the best bang for your buck. Going to be pretty expensive to get to, but plenty to explore around there. And there are a few great kiting spots (MuiNe) and it's the windy season so that could work out.

Good luck

yeah, with only $30/day.... prob south america or southeast asia are your best bet. More expensive to get to, but cheap once you are there.

Costa Rica

www.bluedreamhotel.com

Direct flights from Toronto.
You would only need your 7 and 9 if you went Jan or Feb.
Flat to small chop.
You can get the Dorm if budget is tight.
Wide range of kiters from across the world to hangout with.

Yea. A few years back I went to Mue Ne Vietnam and lived on the beach for months. It was awesome and with a beach front condo, a kite caddy, beer, daily massage and food my total living expenses were maybe $25 USD per day. From there I went to islands offshore and up along the coast to some sick wave and flat water spots. Also traveled inland to Laos and Cambodia. It was the best time in my life and hardly cost anything relative to living back home. In Dec I rode 9 meter conditions for 29 days in a row.
