Hi, everyone!
I'm trying to make a list of key technologiest, R&D steps, major tipping points in history of kiteboarding gear. I offer you my version, but everyone is welcome to correct me and share your vision.
1. Inflatable LE kite design
Legaignoux brothers 1984
They are trying to sell this patent to sport brands without any success. Starting own brand Wipika.
2. Cory Roeseler is starting to ride water ski and rigid delta-shape kite on Maui 1993-94
Windsurfers are stoked and start to get interested
3. Bow shape kite design
Legaignoux 1997
First in history almost complete degpower and water relaunch
Now kiteboarding is accessible to much wider audience
4. Switch from 2 line to 4 line design
When? Was it introduced with bow design?
5. Durable construction of boards (same as in snowboardin)
~2003 Polish guy (later he will create Nobile brand) starts to use this technology
everyone is stoked, because board is not breaking anymore from hard landings
6. Delta-share
designers from F-One in 2007 (who?)
launching Bandit kite with big success
originally in pursue of ways to go around bow patent
shape is really successful for beginners/schools because of windrange and relaunch
What else? Please correct me, where I'm wrong, and post your versions of key steps in development of our sport.

Precisely - I remember seeing the Takoon at the Paris Boat Show in 2004 (and riding it early 2005
)

After the appearance of the Bow from Cabrinha.
Meanwhile since North realized the necessity of canopy support so they use the 5Th line for support till now.
* 2007? Naish Kites develops the infamous Zig-Zag Wing to work around Bow Pat. the Sigma Etc.
* Naish Kites realized the mistake and slowly returning to the standard copy of Bow & C-Kites
recently with the addition of strutless originally realized by Gigi;) and Bill Hansen designers.
* 2007 - 2009 Ultra Bow development. Few company proceeds sales but no success & abounded.
* 2010 - Flysurfer designed the successful Speed3 kites and later developed the famous 21m for light wind.
* 2013 Strutless Kites. Compromise of efficiency and canopy support. So far by 3 companies without much success.

Ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene should be in the story. It has been developed since the 1950's but it wasn't until the 80's and 90's that line in that material became available. This stuff is 10 times stronger than steel for its weight -- kiteboarding wouldn't develop without kite lines!

4. Switch from 2 line to 4 line design
First appearance in the market in 2000 with the Naish AR3.5 and AR5
You forgot a few major milestones:
TwinTip board designed by Franz Olry
First appearance in the market in 2001 with the Wipika Olry 186 and AHD 185
Chicken loop quick release (still not standardized
)
Date? 2004?

Phil, I think twin tip boards were here long ago with wakeboarding. And some people should try these boards with kites before someone put them on market (Lou?).

You're right, I was making reference to twin tip boards designed specifically for Kiteboarding, and sold by kite brands to the "mass market"
At this time it made a huge difference for me while struggling with directionals (Wipika 215 and 230, AHD 215,...)
Concerning the use of wakeboards, iI reminds me of the Liquid Force Picklefork used with boots in early 2000
