Alicante, kite sizes?

Postby PAFF » Thu Jul 18, 2013 3:47 pm

Hey Spain.

I'm going to Alicante for a few weeks now, have 14-11-9-7-5m2 kites..

I'm a 95kg, high level kiteboarder.

What should i bring, as i can only bring 2 kites.?

14-9
11-7
11-9?

Whats the daily trade-wind like there?

14m for sure !!

and second kite, with your weight I would take 11m.

Alicante is not very windy, in summer even less. You will be very lucky if you have more than 12 knots around that area.

South of Alicante there is Santa Pola, 10 kms, which has a bit of thermal winds.

In the North, already close to Valencia, there is Oliva also with thermal winds.

good luck,
Eloico.

I'd suggest a 25m and a 35m on 50m lines - wind is typically very light. I have family there and have been visiting regulary for the last 10 years, only ever had 3 windy days :(

Unless there is a very good forecast don't even bother going down the beach until the after noon, what wind they do have is sea breeze whick will kick in quite regulary around 13:00/14:00 but it's normally only about 8 -12 knots which is ok for the light weights on surfboards but no good for heavy guys, I'm 90kg.

During the summer you can't kite on the busy beaches, Santa Pola main beach is a no go but there is a designated kitespot at the south end of the sea front near the big salt mountains but it's not a great place to surf, just a small crappy beach with a school & arsey instructors at one end and swimming zones at the other. La Marina town (not the urbinization) is probably the best spot about half hour from Alicante, again designated kitezone but it can get busy and people sit right in the launch zone, they have restaurants, beach bars, showers etc there so nice place to visit - go through the town and you'll come to a junction with a big shop selling concrete statues and pottery etc, just head down the road opposite towards the beach :thumb:

Throw your 11 in. If you're not lucky in Alicante and really want a ride, 1,5hr drive north to Denia and you'll have daily 25 kn SE winds. Check out RioMar in Denia (free) or Olibaba CKO club in Oliva (8€)

That's the best info for south Alicante you can get.
Don't belive you will have any wind next weeks, but good luck anyway.

If you want to, just bring 14m and your biggest board.
Best time is from 17:00 till 22:00.
Good luck
