I had the pleasure of riding the new 5'4 T Rex today. The first session I was on 2014 SS Rally 10m, lake waves ,3ft mushy,wind 14-18 knots ( guess, powered up nicely). Session 2 was on a 8m SS Rally in 20-25 knots. I used the T Rex with a Quad fin set up. I'd never used a Quad before,always thruster. I really like the feel of the quad. A little tighter. Great upwind! The Rex has excellent speed(actually didn't think it would be that fast). Very easy to ride, great balance. It rides bigger than it looks, I would say like a 5'8. No issues gybing, actually a little forgiving on some sloppy foot work which was nice. The board is very easy and quick in cut backs, which was one of the best features.
Overall, very happy with the size. Being 87 kg, I think this is a great size in med-high winds like today. It never felt to big. Next time I will use a different fin combo to see how the feel changes.
As for the hanging 10 in the video, The best I got today was 7, thats 5 toes and 2 fingers as I'm getting pitched over the (thankfully) square nose...lol. A sharp looker, the T Rex got lots of attention on the beach!

I am very curious how it compares to the Celeritas 5.6 or 5.8. I use my 5.8 Celeritas a lot for freeystyle stuff and think it.s great for that. Thought I might go for the 5.6 this year with my 80 kg. Or the t-rex.

I think it's a great looking board! Love the bamboo with the wave graphics.

How does it compare to the Space Pickle 5'0"? Completely different designs, I know, but curious when I'd use one vs. the other. The video makes it seem like this board is designed for aerials and if I'm just carving I could ride something else. Sounds more fun than I just described, though.

Same concept as the FireWire Vangard. Im sure there are differences in both.
Revealing and informative would be an objective side by side comparison trex-Vangard.

How strange that people are comparing it to Tomo / Vanguard. This board looks more like a regular fish with a cut-off nose, while the Vanguard has a completely different bottom shape (channels etc.): the hull design is key, not the lack of nose.

I just cut off the nose of a Mulcoy 6.0 to 5.3, does it now look like a Tomo too?

I have been lucky enough to try both the T-Rex and the Vanguard.

In short, the Vanguard with its complex bottom shape is just magic... so sharp in the cutback, fast down the wave and so comfortable at the same time in choppy condition... while the T-Rex is fun to ride but more "standard".

Its totally different compared to the SP. You'd simply use the T Rex when it was windier and/or in a bigger wave situation. Way faster than the SP. I like it because it has a very short feel to it but performs like a bit bigger board. I think it would be the equal to a 5"8. Rode it again yesterday in bigger waves and it was just so much fun. I think the video is really showcasing all the strengths of the board. Without a doubt there are lots of great surf boards around, finding the right one that will suit your needs is the trick.
I think it its a pretty good looking board and the nose does get attention. The old timers think its a Mutant(I did before I got it). The whole line looks really nice with the update graphics.
