Cabrinha Crossbow 2006 (need advice)

Postby nafets » Thu Jul 25, 2013 2:24 pm

Hey guys,

Im looking to buy my first kite and get into the sport. I've got a good deal on a Cabrinha Crossbow 12m with bar, bag and pump. Around 220usd.

Since im a beginner, I want to hear an opinion on this kite?

I forgot, I've flown powerkites before, so i wont have any issues with the handling.

you will have issues! it's too old, too powerful and you need to buy a newer friendlier kite as your first one, you will struggle to get good posture or hold an edge with it.

For the place I intend to ride it, I think size wise its ok.

How about the Naish Cult 2009?

And what about the Best Bularoo 07/08 model? Any info on that kite?

Also, I reconsidered getting a smaller kite. 10m probably. The place were I will be riding has winds from 10-20kn. So 10m kite should fit me just fine. Im 185lbs though

The 2006 12m Crossbow was powerful but in its day it was considered a good beginners kite. Kites have improved a lot since then.

That Crossbow had heavy bar pressure, but it did have good wind range and it was easy to control the power. It was heavy to control with one hand for getting the board on for waterstarting for example.

The Crossbows from 2010 on were much better.

I would suggest going for lessons first with a good instructor. Things in water are a little different. He would certainly use newer kites and then you can make a decision on kites from there. Agree that newer kites are just easier. Safety, depower, relaunch better than older kites. Good luck, have a blast.
