Ha ha yeah guys - I was meaning that people should wear the kyake style hardshell thick foam padding ones that cover your ears too... Best thing ever for learning bad ass tricks or megaLoop rolls - thin crap will see you gettin beat up ;)

After a couple of light bumps to my head from my board and some spectacular face slamming the water crashes hard enough to make my face numb for 10 minutes, I broke down and bought a helmet. I had meant to get one earlier but I hate ordering one without being able to try on a lot of different brands and styles like you can at a ski shop.

I ended up getting the Bern Macon H2O and am very pleased. Bern have a tendancy to run a little tight at least for my head they also feel so but it all depends on the shape of your head. So far this rocks. I looks great, low profile, padded well and excellent drainage through the foam,(It won't stink the next time you wear it!). It doesn't shift around and drop down over your eyes like school helmets did to you when you first took lessons. It also feels pretty light as well, not sure the weight but I would bet it's lighter than those Shred ready helmets.

I was thinking of getting the bright yellow so other kiters would stay away from me thinking I'm a student renting from a shop doing my first solo sessions. Anyone else done this?

I have been using the Gath Gedi Convertable for several years. It is light, comfortable and better padded for kiting than the old Gath Hat.

Pro Tec Two Face Helmet.
Can be worn with the brim facing front or back.
Ear pieces snap on or off.
Most comfortable helmet I've tried.
And it stays put.
