Sad sad news.
So sorry for her and family. 2 german tourists die in Hawaii within a week, one shark attack on an amazing island, other had a heart attack while hiking the most beautiful place in the world, Kauai.
Condolences to both families and fellow country men.
regarding number of attacks and number of people:
There are 7 billion people and how many deadly shark attacks this year?
thats a seven with nine zeros 7.000.000.000( some euro say 12 "0")
and about 100 million sharks are killed a year by humans
thinking we are pretty well off, regarding attacks.
still sucks, and do not want to be eaten...
Horrible situation, could not imagine what the family is going through

agreed... That death was avoidable... dont swim in murky water...
It is really a tragic way to end and as other people said these are chances we take.
She is at rest now. I feel sad for her family

ummm there are some serious f*** tards on here.
It's the Ocean.
We fish it until it is almost empty then we wonder why the predators come closer in and start taking snacks on humans.
I fully accept that when I enter the ocean or river I am outside of my natural habitat. I am not the one in charge.
You're trying to 'tell off' 100m years of evolution.
accept the risk, don't kill organisms just because they are good at what they do..
f***, some of you really need to go to school.

Bunch of ants on the land and sharks in the sea.
Against the remaining homo sapiens.
My bet is on the ants.

There was apparently a 10-12 foot tiger shark spotting at Kanaha yesterday....
I thought I saw something big and gray under the water as I was kiting over it. I am glad I am up and riding now rather than drifting down wind trying to water start -_-
