Maui coral graze - question for riders in Hawaii

Postby longwhitecloud » Fri Aug 16, 2013 9:21 am

2 weeks ago in maui grazed my knee but healed up, near that area i got raised bump 2 cm squared super itchy but not painful like i would expect infection to feel.. its not going away tho.. skin seems healed up tho - no cuts at surface any more. had a friend with septicemia so not keen on that... any suggestions , could it be some coral spores left living in my leg after skin healed up?!

Hi. The worst infection can be caused by the rare flesh eating bacteria (streptococcal bacteria infection) but in this unfortunate event the skin, muscle and tissue start quickly to be literaly destroyed, so it is not your case. A couple of times I had in Maui deep ocean reef cuts and in order to heal I used the antibiotic Mycitracin cream. Also hydrogen peroxide works well with reef cuts but It has to put immediately on the wound. In my opinion you should go to a doctor.
Hope this helps
Cheers
Carlo

the bump is raised 2cm?
could be coral or some vana tucked in there..if it iches I would consider seeing a doctor...a buddy of mine had some vana coming out after a few years and it got really badly infected once hit came out. The spike that came out was about 1-2 cm long tho...

I've had minor things come out and are constantly cut but have never had any issues.

Abover does not work PJ, as you can see - you should always use the "URL" button for links :

Code: Select all

[url]http://www.diversalertnetwork.org/medic correct full link al_Scrapes[/url]
But using the correct FULL link instead of course, as if you dont use the URL tags, long links like yours will not work (they will be shortened with useless "..." in the middle).
