help for captown information

Postby funalex » Fri Aug 30, 2013 4:18 pm

Hi,

My father is sailing from brazil to cap town, he is here https://www.google.fr/maps?q=-33.07,13.56&hl=fr&ll=-32.98102,17.929688&spn=4.450859,5.185547&sll=33.07,13.56&sspn=0.555845,0.648193&t=m&z=7.

They had a lot of problem during the transat, no more engine, not a lot of electricity (just for the satelite phone), not a lot of food, and last night, they had 50+ knots, and they broke the main sail.

For now, no need to rescue, they are sailing slowly arround 3-4 knots (because of the sailing broken) (25 knots of wind) but without engine, they won't be able to go to the harbour alone, and they will need help when they will arrive probably in 3 days.

For the moment, I just want to know if they should go to langeeban or to captown or other ? (langeeban looks easier because wind is from the south, and they can't really go upwind very good with their broken sail)

what harbour is the most simple ? less wind, less waves and less current (and lower price) ?

The port near Langebaan is Saldanha, it should do if conditions are unfavorable for making Cape Town. Both cities have yacht building and repair facilities. Cape Town is bigger, of course.
First thing I found on Saldanha is the folowing, perhaps they could advise you:

For Emergencies Contact :

Cindy 073 420 2836

Natania 084 784 1474

Glenn 082 565 2713

I hope your father finishes his voyage in safety!

thank you, I hope not to have to call emergency ... but I'll look the forecast carefully, another big storm could be hard for him.
