Was considering a raceboard for those super lightwind days just to get out there... anyone ever try putting some race board fins on a surfboard? does it "work" and does it increase the low end substantially? I'm riding a 5'9 shorboard with little rocker, uses fcs fins but can add some fin boxes

Yes, it will go up wind much better.
The problem is to fit the race fins to the surfboard.
I have one Old Cabrinha kiteboard with a windsurfing fin box, so I fit a long windsurfing racing fin. It is the fin that drives the board up wind.

careful you don't rip the fin boxes out!

they are not designed for that kind of leverage...

Steph Bridge had Tarifa Fin Company blade type race fins for the North 5' 10" Rocketfish that she raced in her first PKRA races. The rear one was about 20 cm and the front ones about 16 cm fitted in the standard mini-tuttle boxes.

As you can see they are expensive.

I doubt that they would increase the low end much, but would go upwind better.
