Waist harness that does not slide up, suggestions ?

Postby tolvsbo » Thu Sep 05, 2013 7:26 am

Looking for a new harness and would grateful for suggestions.
Currently using a Dakine Pyro 201!
Pleased with it, with the exception that it will slide up after a while when jumping.

Hooked riding, boosting and kiteloops are my main interests. (unhooked and wave riding will not cause it to slide up :) )

I use a Jay harness with the Dynabar.

Very good, doesn't ride up, even after 2 hours solid use, and that is without the use the supplied leg straps.

Maybe you need a smaller size?

Thank's for the answers

@toby using large, 200 cm and 95kg ?!? Maybe
I'm able to tighten it well enough I think

If anything I should have a larger, or at least "taller" , I can't imagine they are designing harnesses for my height :)

If your weight isn't bulking around your waist, try have a look at the Naish 2013 KL Pro Harness.

Keep your kite lower. They all ride up.

Actually it is true. They do all ride up, except Engine harness. This harness does not ride up because the back support is custom fit to your back. It is imposible for it to move because of the perfect fit and rigid back support. Check it out!

100% Yes, the back length/height of the harness is very important........ the bottom of the harness needs to sit at the base of your back just above the buttocks and the top not above the bottom of your shoulder blades. I have seen more than a few people who have harnesses that only touch at the top and bottom affording little support and lacking enough friction to prevent twisting or rising up. Someone who is 6'6" probably will have a longer back than someone 5"6" but they both could have a similar waist size . I tried on over a dozen waist harnesses before finding one that fit me properly ........ I found that free-style harnesses are often shorter than free-ride ones.

Waist harnesses a different for different people so its impossible to recommend a specific harness, I have found the ones that have the extra strap to hold the spreader bar down work better for some reason :?: . I know the Dakine has been said to be a bit stiff, maybe try a softer harness????

I will also say that a harness riding up is rarely, if ever, to do with the harness and more to do with the technique of the rider. I do understand where you are coming from as it took me 2 years to get used to a waist and not have it riding up but now I have the technique I can wear any harness without it riding up.

Lean back, hips forward, use your legs more and keep the kite lower, can still get pulled up after a crash etc but always will :thumb: you want the kite pull perpendicular to your body and not upwards.
