So much for the argument that there is no tacking duels, racing strategy or talking-smack to the other team...

That start on Race 16 where Oracle put ETNZ in irons was sweet! You could tell that Barker was pissed off and gave those damn Yankees a taste of their own medicine at the Race 18 start. The Kiwi hull had 3 big dents in it after the collision.

Race #19 tomorrow will re-write sailing history!

Is this the biggest comeback in all of sports? Dare I say choke and tough luck by the Kiwis? 3 races called off and they cannot close the deal? What an incredible event. It looks like the Oracle crew has adapted and strategized better after being schooled in the beginning.

I just hope tomorrow's race isn't called off due to too much wind.

The super fast cats lose this and its because of the speed and the speed they lose during maneuvers: they're so fast that when you have to throw in just one extra tack or jibe, your competitor is moving so fast and you lose so much momentum, you basically lose the race. On a monohull, you can keep the momentum from tack to tack and benefit from the shifting wind directions. An analogy (over simplified): catamarans is like a drag race, monohulls is like f1 race.

You can also look at it on the flip side, A mono hull appears to not loose momentum in a tack because it never really gets going fast in the first place

There is a bucket load of skill and tactics required to get these things around a course, it is just different and you gota think quicker because they don't take all day to get to the other end of the course like other forms of sail boats.

All these sailors on these boats all sail and have sailed monohulls, ask them after this contest what they prefer to sail!

learning curve oracle couldn't track properly until last week that show how hard these boats are to sail

There is plenty of strategy and interest on the course for me.
There aren't as many moves as a chess game, the consequences are higher for each mistake.
If such fast boats could split farther or run a longer course, the separation would get too big removing the tactical side. One boat could hit a puff and ride it for miles.
Maybe leg 2 should be upwind, otherwise the setup is pretty good.
Watching the boats bear away in close quarters at mark 1 yesterday was not boring.
Split or cover, play the tide and shifts, huge differences in choosing a mode, what is missing?
Maneuvers are challenging, but that didn't stop oracle from flying through a tack at 17 knots or either boat from foiling through gybes over 25.

The AC never was a 15 rounds, dragged out, 1000 punches landed type of match race.
It is and was a combination of match race, arms race, and crew work.
This cup has been much better than the last one, which was mainly interesting for one start.

Probably the best perspective yet. You're probably right on the money and the ones on the boats are the worlds best. Would they want to go back? I doubt it.

if new zealand wins today Grant Dalton indicated they are going back to monohulls like the 12m class and a nationality rule of some kind, maybe you need 50%
