Finally a kitebrand figured out that we have brains and want to understand how things work a little better.
Kudos to Fone :thumb:

The whole bridal system is very interesting with respect the pulleys ... We had a long discussion with Robert Graham who is on the F-ONE R&D team and he explained just how hard it is to get the right feel and reaction - essentially getting the balance right using pullies - Bandit 7 went through over 80 prototypes to get the kite we have now - many of these were used to get the bridal with the pullies right !!

Cool No problems -

I am F-One importer for South Africa - been riding FONE since 2004 - ridden the Bandit since number 1 - prefer waves and ride surfboard

Here is the feedback I sent

BANDIT 7 - 2014 ... Here is the low down on the release of the new Bandit. FONE have added Robert Graham to the Kite design team and he brings a wealth of experience from the paragliding arena - his job was to redesign the Bandit 6.

Seven years of small tweaks and changes - now a complete re-design !! A big task !! FONE pays enormous attention to details and the Bandit 7 consumed over 80 prototypes in 6 months of development. The introduction of Technoforce from Teijing has made the kite so much more stable and responsive - using this cloth in the correct way doesn't just mean the kite is stronger but there is less stretch in the frame of the kite and makes it much more stable and smooth. We noticed a massive difference back to back Bandit 6 to Bandit 7 - just launching the kite and bringing it to the zennith - you feel how much better the feedback and stability the 7 has !

The new material has also allowed more top end to the new 7 and still the same low-end. Stories from the design team tell us that they only have one size in prototype so this had to be used in any winds and winds this summer in South France varied from 12kn to 45 kn - so some days Mike (55kg) was on a fish testing and other days 45 knots hanging on on a twin tip.

2 more days testing the new gear here in Mauritius - I will update on the surfboards and the twintips later today ...

Samples are available in Durban and Cape Town and the first shipment arrives early October ...

Right now its lunchtime and then onto the water - 25 knots sunny skies One Eye is a little smaller today but the wave looks cleaner - Will be taking 9m and Mitu 5.8 again ... —

Some pics from Mauritius -

I tried the Bandit 7 8m for about one hour in 25-30 knots of wind, here are my findings:

- Upwind performance is good;
- Jumps excellent;
- Hangtime is great;
- Has a little bit more bar pressure than the average kite;
- The kite has a good feedback;
- Loops very good! ;
- In the loops the canopy flutters;
- Depowerd the canony flutters alot and makes the kites less stable, normal powered up riding no flutter;
- Don't like the grip of the bar;
- QR is not from this time but there will be a new bar soon.

Not really much of an explanation there. For those who have flown foils for a long time, it is well known that the bridle is the key to the kite/paraglider. Talking to very experienced paraglider designers, they say that a pulley is a way to fix problems. If the bridle doesn't work properly, you can put a pulley in, but they all strive to avoid pulleys.

I personally would prefer a kite without pulleys, if it is possible. The fact that there are kites out there without pulleys which fly great is a sign that pulleys are not absolutely necessary.

It is interesting to see companies like Ozone and Flysurfer who have a lot of experience designing bridles for soft kites, start making tube kites. Ozone for example doesn't have pulleys on any of their tube kites.

It will be interesting to see if they can make some interesting developments. For example the trailing edge bridle from Flysurfer. Not sure if it makes the kite better as I haven't had a chance to try it yet, but definately interesting to see something new again!

/Marc
