I like to use the Garmin every once in a while to get a different perspective on my tacks. But logging sessions seems too much like work.

Between my Kite and Cable time I go too much to worry about logging them down. Hell I sometimes wake in the morning then kite in the afternoon. LOL I go too much :naughty: !!!! Spring thru the fall I normally 6-8 days straight with 1 maybe 2 days of a break.

Another BigWaveDave'r here....I use the custom log they programmed. It is fun to look back over the season and remember the sessions. It allows some simple stats of location and gear used too -- good for resale, can tell exactly how many sessions used, etc. Also is interesting to be able to look up things like if this 2 week no-wind spell is typical for October or unusual. :x

But prior to my 2 years kiting, I've been keeping a surfing log on a calendar for 15 years.....I have a stack of paper calendars with little scrawled notes. I do this to try and preserve some memory, so it doesn't become a blur from year to year to year. Make sure you note who you were with and anything memorable that happened, as years from now, that's way more important than wave conditions on just another typical day.

On a similar note, I have hours of video footage of me and my friends learning to surf 20 years ago. Unbelievably lame and boring....interspersed is an image once in a while of us when we were young....wish I'd filmed more of that, as it is way more interesting. Everyone hates being filmed, but it is gold later!

Yes, using Endomondo. It's a decent app for biking, jogging, or anything else that lets you carry a mobile device around with you while you do something active. For kiting you have to manually enter your session, which you can do from the web as well. That's fine for me, my main goal is to keep all my physical activity in one place.

The Endomondo web app also lets you upload gps data files, I imagine at some point I'll start carrying around a waterproof tracker so that I can get precise tracking for every kite session.

I have been using sports-tracker to log my kite-sessions. I also have tried sports tracker hearth rate monitor under my wetsuit.

In addition I also write dates etc to text file

whabbits wrote:I was wondering how many people log their sessions either on an online forum, in their own log book \ journal, or something like an spreadsheet?

Here in Victoria, BC, a vast majority of kiters, and windsurfers, log their sessions to keep track of their own progress, equipment, number of sessions per year, and share their stoke with the community.

Does your forum have something like that?

Here's a couple of examples...
BigWaveDave.ca - http://www.bigwavedave.ca/phpBB2/sailin ... ode=common
Ocean Rode - http://oceanrodeo.com/crew/session_logs

I tend to use to mainly keep track of my work \ life balance, so how many sessions \ year am I getting; keep track of a record of usage on equipment for maintenance and resale purposes; knowing if I should have gone East instead West when reading other logs.
What for?
But then there are also people out there who record everything in their diaries and/or let people know on F**kbook where they are, what they are doing and whatever else happens around them.

Life is too short to waste my time with such crap (but that is me)...

Cheers
