Trying to get that bugger out of the quick release and can't figure out an easy way to do it. Anyone thats done it have a suggestion before I just start hacking and picking at it?
I have the quick release apart so I can see the loop and pin. See pic.

Use a small screw driver or awl and dig it out. It's in there tight so you have to work it a bit. I have done a few and it's not so bad after the first one. You can also cut it with a razor to make it easier to remove.

thanks - that worked
I am replacing it with single braid hollow core - it looks like this part of the line was double braid. I'll see how long of a tail I can bury in it to stiffen it up a bit. Any reason to think this would cause an issue?
I am putting a 4:1 trim line on it a the same time, so everything above the bar is changing.
