Can you show a picture of the locking device -
Is it a belt in a plastic or metal loop ? (I doubt it...)
Is it a clicker system ? (I assume since you write "mechanism")
Is it a "bend and hook" system ?
I've had my Mystic (quite strong metal clicker system) open once only, but pretty sure it was because a bit of sand has caused it to not be fully locked - so kind of my own fault and I check more carefully now
The belt systems are of course the safest, and will not open accidentally.
The "bend" and put metal in metal has a bit of a risk that it can open/release, when riding toeside.
But because brands knows this, the new ones are better in this respect - but of course not as easy to mount/demount then
