WTF! Board top layer cracks not covered by warranty?!

Postby windrt » Thu Oct 24, 2013 11:59 am

Have you ever had a similar issue?

Board´s top layer cracking and delaminating and the manufacturer says it´s due to over bending?!

It has a "fair and reasonable lifetime warranty" against "Board hardware and lamination", my board top layer cracks and they say it's not covered because I have overbent the board.

Has anybody here ever over bent a kiteboard? It is a wakestyle board with tough construction and heavy duty rails, inserts and base.
The company is a top level international brand, claiming lifetime warranty for lamination issues and they say I broke it over bending...

cant belive...

Nope not heard of it, Do you have photos?

Equally I've seen some guys on rails etc, really pulling their boards around. So I could understand how this might happen.

Good luck

Paul

Sounds bogus to me! How can they prove it was overbent? Exactly what is over bending? I've broke every board I've owned and as long as it's in the warranty period I get a new one. Even one that was 6 months out of warranty I got a reduced price on new board. I wouldn't except their claims. Keep pushing :argue:

How old is the board?

I don't really know all of the details, but I can see where they are coming from. They can't warranty the board for the entire "lifetime" against any and all damage. If the board is only a few months old that is different.

I think the "lamination" warranty is more for manufacturing defects. As in the board delaminates because they didn't build it correctly.

Do you think the damage occurred because of a manufacturing defect or was the board just at the end of its expected life after years of hard riding?

Seen it a few times, has happened to me with Naish, Nobile and UG boards. My old Naish had a 3D top sheet a it cracked along one of the contours after a hard backfoot landing. My Nobile the corner bent where the fun was, not sure why that happened and both my last UG FLX boards have cracked under a foot pad, the first one I changed the board but my current one has been like it for a while now with no detrimental effect. Bear in mind all pre 2011 boards so newer boards may be better.

There is an issue with certain boards not being able to stand up to heavy riders who land hard, I did a lot of research and although all boards have limitations and will only ever take so much "abuse" full wood core and flat top sheets seem to stand up to more stress

Wow, I bought a brand new board about a month ago and it came with an inch long crack on the clear sheet right next to the rail. I didnt think this could be a problem, I should've asked for an exchange. Could this be a really bad problem ?? I will post a pic later.
