I am planning a trip to the Bequia and Union Island this January. I must fly to Barbados on air Canada then catch SVG air to Union or Bequia. SVG flies very small propellar planes and have told me by email they cannot fit my 159 inch kite/golf bag in their luggage compartment. Has any one had experience with this? Surely many kiters go to the beautiful kite spot on Union and bring their own gear, or do they just rent, come on yachts or spend $$$$ to charter a whole plane from Barbados? I was thinking of just bringing my kite and renting a board on Union, but then I would be unable to show off my new kiteboarding skill to my friends on Bequia..

Did you also tell them that your bag is 159 inches? That's more than 13 feet.
I expect that your bag is closer to 159 centimeters or about 5 feet.

Thanks for picking up the error in my post, Styleito,
No I told them bag is 59 inches (150cm) not 159 inches! I just double checked my email to SVG air. This is the average size for a medium sized kite travel bag.
