Very informitive, can you do a twist n load simulation as in full power crash or gettin rinsed in the surf ?
Also ive recently broken an old bar diectly in half, at the alloy centre hole... when the kite powered up hard, at the back of the window.
What is the instant acceleration load and break strength of your bars ? Your video only shows very very slow loading..
Im 75kg and was doing 50ft ish jumps just prior to it ???

That is a cool video. As advances in kite design slow down I think a lot of riders are going to be looking at construction and materials as a deciding factor when choosing a kite company.

Can we see some material rip tests? I'm interested in how the double rip stop used by some of the main companies compares to the standard rip stop.

the usuall good stuff - today is a good day, still in the morning and already learn somethign

however i wonder where the guys at switch draw the line of over-engineering
(in relation to 2x dracon and all that magic, not about the tests themselves)

thanks to the top blokes at Switch NZ, I had a Nitro3 14 for demo for about 2 weeks when I was back in Christchurch.... unfortunately, the wind didn't really co-operate and it was either 10m weather or just too light.

I did actually notice was how well put together it was. Now I know what the difference is

Good video! But you are saying that Best and Cabrinha are using the "industry standard" but that is wrong, Cabrinha for example is using this construction since 2008:

Interesting but how does it relate to real world use?
There is noticeable strain in the switch sample before it comes apart.
Does permanent, non-elastic deformation (i.e.: kite will never return to original shape) happen at 80, 90, 100 kg?
By eyeball, the "standard" shows strain and separation at seam ends by 52kg, the switch version around 80-something.
My guess is 80+ load in one area could result in a kite that no longer flew straight, and delayed seam failure in time.
But perhaps this is not fair to say since the dogbone test depicted seems to be a harder test than anything that would really happen in use, with so little seam length to distribute loads. But I know so little of cloth engineering.
In any case I'm all for increased durability
Anyone with engineering/repair/design experience care to comment?

When my kite gets caught into the waves or somewhere else I'd rather have it deformed and able to fly back, than an exploding or sticking out bladder.
I do understand none of both is good... but I prefere the one with still air in it

as far as my observation, this is not about the little seam, it is the complete layup of the different material/ layers used, see for yourself where in the Switch movie the comparision between the other brands is made in the SEAMTEST...
so if I understand correctly is is due to the different layup of cloth used, the seamtest is showing the stronger total...and not just the little seam finish on the outside.
