follow up - I have been flying the NRG 2014 16 for the past 6 months. Is summer here in Melbourne Australia. The last time I had the NRG up was on a day it was below 6 knots and I couldn't get going on a malibu surfboard 9 feet long. There was a contra kite on the same day and he could not get going. The NRG is a great kite from 8 knots to mow the lawn on a 145x46 twin tip or my malibu surfboard. At 10 you can start jumping on any board. Yes it is slow to turn but it goes up wind very well. The material is great and I know it will last for a long time. Below 8 knots is difficult to relaunch from the water but if the kite is dry a hot launch always works. At 10 knots no issues with relaunching from the water. At 14 knots I swap the kite for my 14 meter Ride 2014. One think I don't like if you self launch and you are turning the kite on a narrow angle the lines will jam. I have to make sure I pull the kite on a wide angle so the wind will fill the sail and push it down wind. I weight 85 kilos cheers

I have just come back from a session on my fat lady, the top end is better than some would have you believe. When I came of the water it was averaging 22 knts and although I was fully powered I was not getting dragged down wind and was infact going up wind better than someone on a naish draft.
I wouldn't recommend that level of wind for a kite that big but it goes to show that its top end is very respectable.

I had FL 2012. Great beginner kite. Light (~9lb), flies in ~6 knots. Easy relaunch with nice float to the side. I could mow the lawn from 9 kt on 149x47. I am 200lb, 4y kiting. Great range up to 24-25 knots for me on smaller 140x43 board. But substantial bar pressure in the upper range was killer for me especially after few hours. I didn't try FL 2013.
I bought 2013 NRG 16m. Heavier kite (~12lb), flies in ~8knots. I could mow the lawn from 9 kt on 149x47. Also great range up to 25 knots or so on smaller 140x43 board. What I love about NRG is light bar pressure within whole wind range. I can stay on the water few hours without any issues. Much slow turner but great hang time. I think it is great contender for airstyle. Toby should try it.
One negative is the relaunch in lower wind range especially in deep water. If you loose your board in deep water you don't have enough resistance to bring it up in <12knots winds. With board on or shallow water you can manage it. Still I prefer to deal with relaunch than with high bar pressure. I have all 2013 NRG's quiver right now.
I tried 2014 NRG 12m. Similar feeling but somehow less power. The 2014 NRG 12m felt like my 2013 NRG 10m.

off the topi but - I had a 10 and 12 NRG 2013 and sold them to buy 2014 model. It was a mistake. the 2013 has a lot more power.
