My family and I are coming to KoOlina in March and I was hoping to do some kitesurfing. I live in AK and getting time on warm water a privilege for me.
Is there a shop in the Ko Olina area where I could rent good gear and leave my kit at home? I'm bringing my daughter and girl friend who may be interested in lessons. Is there anyone close to our resort? What are the rules for kiting in the area?

There is nothing solid in that area, unless you are lucky and / or have a rescue boat and / or a get out of jail free card.
I know many of the instructors if you have a question about any of them send me a PM.

Yup, afraid that's the case. Occasionally there's wind at Kalaeloa (red circle), but the West side of Oahu is usually dead. The main spots are Kailua and Mokes (yellow circles). You've got a drive to either. Lot's of workday traffic on that side. No one rents kites due to liability issues. Convince an instructor at Kailua that you can kite and they might make you a deal. Best to bring your own (9m-12m).

Thanks to everyone. Great info, even if it is bad news. Looks like we'll have to snorkel and dive instead of kite.

Its not that far away. Just rent a car and make a day seeing the sights and kite....
