Obi,

First...what is your riding style? Waves, free ride, freestyle? All the above?

Second, the 2012 is completely different from the 2013 and 2014.

2012 has quickly become one of the most preferred wave riding kites on the market.
*FAST turning
*Light bar pressure.
*Pivot turns on a dime.
*Luffs with no pull when overhead (good for tack transitions).
*Drifts really well.

2013 was a different kite, but better for most riders unless they mostly ride waves.

2014 is much improved on 2013 being quicker turning, tons of low end, jumping is insane.
*Quick turning.
*Lightish bar pressure.
*Much more stable than 2012's.
*Between arc and pivot turns.
*Pulls like a banshee.
*Drifts well.

Hard to beat the 2014's unless you ride strapless mostly.

Hope this helps,

Bob

You might want to check sizing of 2014's. The 12m 14m (I have only flown the bigger sizes) kites seem slower turning and more powerful in comparison to 2012's. I would say a new 2014 12m seems like a 2012 14m in respects of turning and power.

I'd say 1m bigger for 2014's, but not quite 2m.

I like my 2012 12m, it seems a little lighter than the 2013. Using an 8m 2014 and it seems to have a broader wind range and greater depower than previous years. Also the depower is easier to use powered up than previous years. I haven't figured out how they tweaked the depower mechanism yet but it definitely functions bette.r

Previous posts spot on. My 2014 12m seems 1m bigger than previous kite. It does turn kind of slow but the jump and hang is crazy. Depower is marginally better. It's just a great all-around kite :D

agree with the above handling and feel.
a friend has the 2012 and i have the 2014 and we put them on the ground un-inflated and found the 2012 8 is the same size as the 2014 7
2012 10 is the same size as the 2014 9
so there appears to be a 1 meter difference in the size but the 2014 has a better low end as well so it feels more like 1.5 meters difference, also 2014 has a s good or better top end so much more range and a better feel through the turn. so unless you just ride waves the 2014 is a better choice.

The "unless you ride waves" statement needs a bit of nuance: when you are light and riding strapless, than the 2012 was probably a better choice, but for me, with a lot of weight (95 kg, 220 lbs), the 2013 / 2014 is better suited.

for strapless waveriding you only need a 8 & 6 (from 16 to 34 knots average), unless you want light wind or have a lot of current. For those reasons (and using a twintip) I added a 12 (starting below 10 knots on an alaia).
