SENDIT! wrote:Well, you can solve half the problem with just one of the simple gauges that fits onto your pump. We sell a couple of these (one from Slingshot, one from PKS) and they're both only $20. I used to only recommend them to beginners, but I started noticing that when I was landing/launching kites for proficient riders that their kites were under-inflated. Now, I recommend them to everyone. It just takes the guesswork out. And, if you KNOW that you pumped it to 8 psi and check it later b/c it feels *squishy* and discover it's less, you may have identified a leak before you find out the hard way. :x I always tell my students, "Remember, limp is NEVER good!"

I do admit, it would be cool if they came up with a monitoring cap-gauge, but I have also heard those tend to leak as well.
Aaaah, seriously ?

C'mon, I assume you are talking about the typical pressure gauges ?

Everybody knows, they are worth NOTHING in terms of absolute values :o

When you know exactly how much YOUR kite has to be pumped, according to your gauge, well, fine then.

But for an absolute measurement, they are IMO totally useless whatsoever :(

(I am working every day with measurement equipment and calibration)

OK then.... instead of monitor cap.... how about an air pressure " pop up " device part of the LE

No need for pump gauges anymore :bye: ...have the device located near intake valve

Once a kite reaches optimum air pressure for it's size the LE indicator would pop up and stay up

After long session or long break if the kite pop up is same it would indicate no loss of air pressure

If turkeys can have pop ups ....why can't we ?? :pump:

flick it with your finger as you top it up.
When it goes "thunk" it's not done.
When it starts to go "ping," it's done.

You could have anywhere from 2-4 Pop Ups along the leading edge and struts to make sure of equal pressure…..

And people are Already complaining about the exorbitant cost
for a kiteboarding Kite !!!

SO -- Everyone has to pay MORE , because some Lazy retard is
too stupid to look at the pressure gauge on a pump ? Yes they
all read different, just get someone that knows, to tell Ya when the kite is
full, then mark the gauge there ; now Ya get :
the same results every time.

Mostly pump it as hard as you dare and then do 4 more. In reality you will not ove rpump it but may under do it. I did for years. Depends on the kite though and the LE tube diameter for it's size. I have 2 10's that are really diffeernt in how hard you need to pump. The skinny one is great as long as you almost break the pump.

To monitor the air pressure after session and not so much when we pump our kites initially

Sure some clever devices could be invented to help troubleshoot loss of air pressure

In the meantime it is wise to clip tight all the struts after pumping kite to it's optimum pressure

After session or after long break " feel" your center strut to see if it is still at correct pressure

Unclip it and listen

If you hear air shooting out of center strut you have lost air pressure in LE and have a slow leak

You should repeat with all other struts also to confirm that the LE has lost air

Just my 2 cents to monitor LE possible leak
