I'm curious what the average age of kiters in your area. Here in Okinawa I'd say 45. As old as 65, one of the best kiters here is 63. I' 44 and almost never see anyone in their 20s here kiting.

My guess would be 40 here in Mass. I See mostly guys in their fiffties, forties, and thirties. A see fewer in their sixties and twenties. Not a cheap sport, seems to attract mostly young professionals who have some money and middle age folks with established careers, and some free time.
Definitely not a sport for Joe Six Pack.

in this spot i am at for the winter there are 2 groups.
the instructors and hangers on average 22.
the rest of us general riders (the majority) average 66. 60 to 75.
in the summer spot average age varies by launch.
most are 45 to 55, there is one that averages 28-30.
just guesses, though. it can be hard to tell some peoples age when they stay active and are having fun!

I would guess easily into the 40s, but we are trying to get more younger guys involved. It's tough because it's just so expensive. I am 26.

jats2k9 - good on u, when i saw middle aged industry /riders (brands, shops, distributors) attacking their model at the start(as long as they keep their principles of moral responsibilities that go with selling direct - well all other companies sell online now too anyway..) - I found it hypocritical
Kiteboarding marketing has become marketing using young ripping riders to sell an image to middle aged riders. IKA even tries to sell kiteboarding as a youth sport for olympic fame and yet put in place ridiculous rules for even more expensive kit. I support youth in kiteboarding, the greatest barrier is $$$$$ - they all told me that (the younger riders) even the children of wealthy kiters cos they got no one to ride with to keep em inspired.

really not so expensive. I have some kites + bar that I've picked up used that cover 80% of wind in my area for under $500
