Kite pumps- where's the technological advances??

Well the fact is pumping up a kite with a manual pump makes my back hurt. I tried different pumping "styles" but always end up with a sore back. Only thing that helps is my electric pump, that fails once in a while, so i would like a manual foot-pump backup.
Kitesurfing doesn't make my back hurt at all.

It would be an absolute travesty to replace the simple push-pull kite pump. It's a good pre kite warm up. I know it gets me all heated up.

in this day and age why are we still using the same pumps as 10 years ago? seems by now we should have wider and longer options (that's what she said) with ability to change to pump only on down stroke

Cabrinha new pumps are so easy to use since they made the shaft wider. Wider shaft means that it pumps more air on each stroke and the stroke are also really soft and smooth; I can pump my 15m Core XR3 in about 2 min without breaking a sweat. The bad part is that they are still using cheapo part meaning that if you are lucky the pump will last one season....

Exactly - that was my point !

If they are made more kite specific, great - but if they are priced somewhat higher, we might not want to like it, if they still wont last for long...

So the key here is lifetime, which (I think) is extremely difficult to extend.

The next thing is, IF you could get a REALLY expensive kitepump, you knew would last and work "always" - would you still be able to toss it on the beach while you are out - without worrying that it should be nicked ?

I still find the "lifetime" when exposed to extremely fine sand for hours and hours so many days per year, is the major problem and reason why expensive more refined pumps has a hard time surviving

I use the new North pump 2014 (Scoprega ) easy to identify with the angular top cap

I usually pump my Core Riot XR3 19m2 in @ 70 seconds ....supra easy to do

With the 2 liter pump...2 way ...88 downstrokes..or total of up and down ( X 2 = 186).....7 PSI

What i would like to see is someone create that same exact pump 50% taller and 3 liters

You would not have to bend down quite as much ( to help those with sensitive backs)

Less downstrokes would also save a little bit of time too

you mean wider shaft - means less pressure on up-stroke - means less fatigue?
or did you mean wider piston - means bigger volume per stroke? in that case it will be harder to achieve the same pressure in the kite bladder.
do you have the picture of cabs pump? i didn't find it on their website
