FireWire timbertek

Postby TomW » Wed Mar 05, 2014 10:33 pm

Hi, anyone know if the standard FireWire timbertek surfboards can stand up to Strapless kite surfing use? I'm not particularly hard on boards.
I'm thinking of getting a baked potato 5-3 for lighter days. They are pretty good priced in the uk.

Hi Guys,
The standard T.T surf models are great boards but do not with stand the high impacts of kitesurfing.
They will for a few weeks or months but thats anyones guess depending on your abuse level. Personally a standard t.t surf model lasts me a month max. . I would highly advise waiting for the kite specific Timber tek models. These boards will last thru any kiteboarding stress levels.
Cheers
Felix

I've been using the firewire standard surfboards for the last few years for kiting. Felix is correct. Even the FST construction will eventually delaminate where the front foot goes. However, a 4 ounce fiberglass patch over this area will cure this. There is a local shaper that charges $40 and has done several boards for me and some friends. The boards have been solid and show no signs of delam. The added weight is marginal compared to the kite specific directionals that feel like tanks to me. On a side note.....I do have an "Alternator" that my brother spray painted on the deck. For some odd reason, that board has not delaminated with lots of heavy use. So, maybe the coats of paint have made the deck strong enough to withstand kiting.
