Where a thumb/round tail has to pinch the rail line in eventually, a fish tail allows for a straighter rail all the way to the tail which is indeed pretty efficient. Its sort of the defining design feature in the latest and greatest ultra efficient planning hull designs ie. vanguard. That board has a cutout in the tail that is there to take volume and some strategic surface area out of the tail while preserving width and allow the rider to sink the tail during pivotal turns.

A "fish" tail is designed for small, flatter, slower waves...the type Bob rides.
The "kooks" riding backside in big, fast, steep faces and hollow barrels ride pins and rounded pins.
Bob, would of course ride his fish inside the barrel. Because all other boards, and the pros riding them backside, are taking the easy way out and suck.

You two girls are very entertaining.
The kid's weed infested ego is almost as large as yours.

45 pages of playing dueling ego's with your prote'ge' Bob
then a little poopy talk, curse words, and a sexual suggestion that another man swallow...frontside.
.
To get me to comment on this stupid thread?
If that's what really goes on in your head...then you're further gone than everyone thought.

had fun wave riding today....backside.....frontside... any side ...worked just great
Did not care about the 55F air temp...shorty was just fine....ocean water was bit warmer at 62F
Sun was out..wind was very gusty...side to side side off North 360 to 340 degrees at 11 to 19 knots
Killed it on 12 Reb & Whp....no need for a 19 & Nug....(P.S. Oldie..i've been out 13 days this year)
My beach is soooo nice....no dogs allowed ever....no poooop on our very nice sand
