6 kites in light wind test

Postby rtz » Fri Dec 13, 2013 7:44 am

Something to see and read while it's cold and dark out(and no wind!):

http://kitefinder.blogspot.com/2013/12/ ... -2013.html

Too bad a few kites were missing from the test(Infinity, Flite, Zeeko Notus, Cloud, LF NRG, etc)

From all I've read/seen; this is supposed to be one really good kite:

http://oceanrodeo.com/products/flite

Anyone flown it?

I have tried just about all the big kites out there,
the best is Ozone Edge 19M

Other important attributes they didn't mention......
1. Fastest turning
2. Best for unhooking and/or practicing tricks in light wind
3. Least likely to Hindenburg when the lines slack(or drift)
4. Most fun to fly in light wind

And the winner is......Fat Lady :D

Most useless test ever, comparing a 13m to a 21m lol. Would have made sense if all were 17-21ish kites.

Yes bad test criteria. There are a lot of great light wind kites out now +1 for Ozone Edge 19m it turns quicker than Dyno 15m and has big boost and hangtime capabilities.

yeah not a really useful test.....there are different classes of lightwind kites for sure in terms of size alone. i find it interesting that they included the 13m edge. certainly that kite can work in lightwind with the right board.

i feel like all the lightwind kites produced today will work well enough. it is more about matching the riding style of the rider to the right kite and board and local conditions. today there isn't a lightwind kite that is "better" than all the others.

at the extreme low end some kites will shine above the others but this can be offset by a board selection.

i can ride upwind at the extreme low end on my 14.5 wainman and race board when others are on big flysurfers and cloud 17m with doors/sectors. they all work well enough....just a matter of preference and riding style

Incomplete test for LW

Ozone Edge 19 missing
Core Riot XR3 19 missing
Newest generation North Dyno 17 missing

All those would have surely changed the order on the podium :winner1:
