How would be best to get to Ras Sudr right now with the unrest in Egypt? Wouldn't it be dangerous to travel by bus, or should a transfer be arranged somehow?

Ras Sudr is the one of the best kite spots in the world. Fly Kitesurfing has the best spot. Best time is From April To November 80% wind days, December to March 50% wind days. There is two Kite Hotels Mattarma Bay and Kiteloop. I personally stay at Mattarma Bay. Egypt is very safe, you can take bus or Taxi From the airport, recommend you take Taxi and let the hotel arrange it will be cheaper.

Jason is there a particular reason you want to go there as there are just as good places in Egypt with a lot less hassle to get to and with far better hotels .
One thing Ras will have going for it will be it wont be as busy as the rest .

Unrests are way way to exaggerated. Unless you somehow wonder off to kairo backstreets you are gonna be fine.

I went for a month back in August 2009.
I had a very mixed time, 2 weeks of not quite enough wind then 2 weeks of great wind but the spot we were staying at was just choppy water so we would go down wind to a spot called Ras Green which had really great lagoons but neither centre really wanted us to kite there. It really was a great downwinder.

Tony, I think you stayed in a place called Paradise and the center was called Fun kites, It was run by French guys, it since closed down.
As I told you in my earlier post Fly kitesurfing is the best spot, it is located in the lagoon you are referring too. And Best hotel is Matarma bay enjoy your trip.
