9m and 7m OR 6m kite for 135 lb women rider

Postby smokedvw » Tue Jan 28, 2014 5:38 pm

I'm trying to determine what additional kite I need to get for my girl friend to be able to ride with me. I have a 12m and 9m currently. She is 135lbs and will be using a womens 132-34x38-40 board. She is just starting and did her IKO course but at this point is still getting up on the board and going downwind.

I'm thinking she would probably be on my 9m when I'm on the 12m (15-20 knots) but I wanted to know if I should get a 7m or 6m for the next size. 20-25 knots for her?

I would like to be able to get a kite that I may be able to use as well when its blowing which is why I was leaning towards the 7m. I figured I would need about 25 knots for the 7m and 30 for the 6m.

I'll be hoping to

Please let me know your thoughts

weight scales linearly so if you weigh 175 pounds and have a 9 and 12 she should have a 175/135 = 78% the size of the kite or a 9 and a 7

I would get a 7, it's a good size for you too when it starts to nuke.

Hi I'm more or less the same weight and I use(d) 5-7-9-11.

Mostly it depends in how steady the wind is. If she's planning to go out with just 20-25 a 7 could be good if in that conditions you have gust till 30 knots maybe a 6 is better.

In my opinion with more than 25 knots you can actually use any small size and have fun.

Ciao
