Hello,
After a bit of advice about my 9m 2012 Fuel. For some reason it seems to backstall when unhooked much worse than the 2011 Fuel? Has anybody else noticed this? My 2011 9m backstalled a bit when under powered, but the 2012 stalls even when powered up!?! I have never had a backstall issue with any of the other sizes of any year.
Some info:
I fly it with equal length lines and almost always in freestyle setting (front knots)
I fly it with 23 metre lines and on the 17inch bar
Never had to trim Fuels or depower them to stop them backstalling
Any advice is much appreciated.

Add extra pigtail to your steering lines. Keeping adding length until your kite doesn't fly backwards, when you unhook. Its just over sheeted, by the sounds of it.

pull in 1 inch of trim and it won't. every size i have (13/9/7) backstalls at full power, all you need is an inch or so and it's rock solid in any wind

I trim about 2 inches worth on all my fuels when I unhook. When I am jumping I don't use any trim.

I've never needed to trim Fuels at all to stop them backstalling, except the 9m when it's underpowered. I was just really surprised by how bad my 2012 9m was stalling, even when powered up! I'll just have to trim it a bit from now on I guess. Would flying it on wakestyle make much difference?

I think they made the relaunch better in the 2012 which is why it backstalls more. Better relaunch = able to fly backwards better. For fuels before 2009, they can't really backstall even if you fly them with all the weight on the back lines because they have no relaunch capability. Of course if you fly it like that it's impossible to get decent pop because you can't drive it through the wind window. Wakestyle might help but I would just trim it a little anyway for better pop. Unlike an RPM where wakestyle vs freestyle is a big deal because you are swapping out a pulley, a fuel behaves much the same on either setting.

Cheers edt, that verifies my belief that backstall is worse on the 2012. And you're right, relaunch seems better. I'll have to trim her and get her dialed in over the next few sessions. Think I'll give wakestyle mode another go too...

I've found the kites have such good low end anyway that I need the inch or two of trim as a baseline. 12 knots on a 13m fuel for me is perfect with a little depower pulled

I had the same problem with my 2012 9m. I hated flying it so it's not just you. I just bought a 2014 which flies better. I all so got some line extensions to help with the kite turning too fast when landing blind.

Hey The Joe, I just came across your post about your 2012 9m backstalling! I am definitely not imagining this then! The 2012 9m backstalls terribly, it's so bad that I'm considering changing from Fuels, because the older Fuels were better in my opinion. I've been thinking of switching to Vegas's for a while now.
