Pump mod for old guys

Postby revhed » Tue Jun 03, 2014 2:16 pm

Maybe this will help save your old bad back for the session?

It is to short for my tallest friend, but to tall for the shortest and for me perfect after 3 cuts.
So if you have a old dead pump and some time on your hands start longer and test untill you get what you want.
I also put a nylon over the intake with a plastic pull tie and a one way valve at the nozzle to keep sand out.
Where I fly the wind kicks and sand goes everywhere!

That's a good mod, I have some tall friends who did that too!

Bonjour !

How about using that idea but making a longer pump shaft altogether to go up and down less
Longer shaft @50% longer

Most pumps are 18 inches in height
Add an old pump bottom of 9 inches that would connect to an "open " bottom of top pump

Now you have a 27" inches pump
Of course the connection between bottom & top must be made seamless smooth and leak proof

But the point is by just putting a spacer or lift under a normal size pump, you don't have to bend so far down to get the piston of the pump to the bottom, having the bottom of the pump elevated is what makes it easier. For tall guys especially....
I'm not tall enough to bother with the mod (so far), but have to admit when I use my friends' pumps with it, it is a little more comfortable.

Pumps are vastly inferior...

I prefer this one:
- handle is twice higher,
- neither size nor weight increase in car boot or plane luggage

Good thinking Europe 2,, but even better would be telescoping extensions that your shorter or taller friends could adjust? Mine does not!
I like that it folds around the pump for transport.
I envision a simple spring loaded push button clicking into a line of holes, like found on old camera tripods.

Taking care of your back is all about good technique. Stand directly over your pump with it between your legs, keep back vertical and strait , now go up and down with legs only. Yes it looks a little different , but your back will never bother you and your legs get a nice work out.
I have had a pesky back for years. The key is to always avoid the dreaded hunched over lift, where you simply bend from the waist to lift something, this move will blow your back out in no time. Always keep back up and use your legs...
Putting toddles in a snap in car seat is a good example. Next time try putting one leg in the car and bending with your leg. Absolute back saver .
