Airstyle Line Length?

Postby Windstoked » Fri May 01, 2015 3:32 pm

I'm working on tricks incorporating low kite loops and it seems like shorter line lengths (23m or 25m) are more challenging than my 27m lines. I use a 14m kite most of the time. Would even longer lines than 27m be beneficial?

For sure shorter lines loop faster.

You want to loop? So forget 27m! Even 24 will be too long, go "extrem" and try 21 or 20, you will be stoked about the response of your kite. But what would be interesting TOBY, what lines do you fly? As many know you're on larger kites than the rest on the spot. Do you combine a large kite with shorter lines to get back some responsivness due to the qm's?

the longer your lines are the longer your darkslide is, maybe that's what he is after. i've done some slides on 40 meter lines make sure you start far from shore! long lines suck at kiteloop transitions, they take too long to turn. so it depends on what you are trying to do. i have also run 10 meter lines those do amazing transitions and powered kiteloops because you can get the kite so low but suck for darkslides. of course i usually run 20, 24 and 30 meter lines depending, i only run 10 meters and 40 meters rarely.

Yes, edt, I'm looking for longer hang time for tricks like the darkslide, and it seems like the longer the lines, the longer the pendulum and thus the longer hang time before you need to loop the kite through. However, in lighter wind I find that shorter lines make the loop easier to power through at the right time.

it's exactly the same light wind strong wind, long lines give you a longer slide the only difference is you have to adjust your timing. experiment, see what you like.

I fly my Rebel 18 with 32m lines.
This way I slow down the kite.

Thanks, Toby. That's interesting to know what line length you use.
